Resolved Question: Where are the best places to live in New Haven, CT?

I am a lab tech in my late 20s who is relocating from North Carolina to Connecticut. I live in Charlotte in the Elizabeth area. My job will be fairly close to New Haven CT (Shelton), so I figured that would be the best city to live in, but I really don't know anything about the area. I know there are good and bad parts of every city and I prefer to live in a decent area, preferably an art district...somewhere in a good part of town but not the most expensive part.
